Everything You Need to Make IPR a Breeze

April 9, 2024 blog01

Discover solutions for safe, effective IPR ranging from kits, burs, strips, or discs.

Interproximal reduction (IPR) is a procedure that gently removes small amounts of enamel to create space for orthodontic tooth alignment treatments. IPR ensures that braces or clear aligners will move teeth more effectively by diminishing overcrowded areas.

When you’re shaving down teeth, it’s important to have a reliable solution ready so that you can complete safe and efficient interproximal reduction every procedure time.

From interproximal reduction kits and IPR diamond strips to specialty burs, Komet has solutions to fit any need.

1.  Interproximal Reduction Gildner Kit

The Interproximal Reduction Gildner Kit features Komet’s 60° oscillating segment (OS) discs.

The OS Discs offer excellent visibility and minimize the risk of injury to soft tissue due to the safe ended edge not requiring a disc guard. These discs precisely and optimally remove debris due to their oscillating motion.

Komet has released an OS disc line extension which features the OS18MVE, an OS disc with an uncoated, blank center and medium grit diamond coating on the edges of the top of the disc. The blank center allows easy access to the interproximal space without removing too much enamel from the first point of contact.
IMPORTANT: These discs must be used in Komet’s OS30 handpiece.

2.  DISCtance™ Kit

Another popular solution is this all-in-one IPR kit includes five diamond discs that are engineered to mirror in-demand specifications in popular aligner systems.

The diamond discs efficiently reduce enamel and decrease surface roughness due to the various grit options. They also retain a flat shape for an extended period of time, resulting in a longer service life.

3.  Mosquito Bur

The Mosquito bur (8392) is a needle-shaped, fine-grit diamond bur designed for quick, yet precise teeth shaving.

The IPR bur is also available in single-patient use (8392SU).
Use the mosquito bur for .5 mm of reduction when completing interproximal reduction (IPR).

4.  Diamond Strips

Komet’s honeycomb and solid diamond strips offer excellent visual control, optimal flexibility and minimal heat generation. Not only are they available in two widths, 3.75 mm and 2.5 mm, but Komet’s diamond strips are offered in coarse, medium, fine and extra-fine grits to ensure precise interproximal reduction.

IPR doesn’t have to be cumbersome. That’s why Komet has crafted a full range of solutions to help you complete interproximal reduction procedures while reducing chair time and increasing safety
